Helonias was valued as a woman's herb in Native American traditional medicine and was used to cure various gynecological issues. However, since different herbs have the same name that sounds close to them, there is significant uncertainty over their precise purpose.

Given how uncommon it is in the wild, heonias is a native of North America, and it can be found growing east of the Mississippi River in low, damp, well-drained terrain. It is advisable to use alternate herbs, including wild yam and black cohosh.
