The butter tree is a deciduous tree with a height of 20 meters (65 feet). It features greenish fruit, clusters of fragrant white flowers, and leathery leaves.
India has used the butter tree as a food and medicinal source for at least 2,000 years. In addition, its blooms are consumed and used to brew alcoholic beverages.
Native to central and northern India are the Madhuca species. In the summer, the flowers, leaves, and seeds are collected.
