With its oval-shaped leaves, fig-like fruit, and roots that extend from branches into the ground, the banyan tree can grow up to 20 meters (65 feet) in height.
Hindu temples are often found next to banyan trees, considered sacred by the Hindu community. Shiva, the deity, is often depicted resting peacefully beneath a banyan tree, which is India's national tree.
The Banyan Tree grows wild in India and Pakistan. This tree is also grown across the Indian subcontinent.
