A perennial herb with numerous branches, desmodium can grow as tall as 50 cm (20 in.). It has three tiny, oval-shaped leaflets per leaf and pale purple blooms.
In traditional West African herbal medicine, desmodium has long been used to treat asthma and jaundice.
It originated in West Africa, specifically in Ghana, northern Liberia, and Sierra Leone. After flowering or as needed, the aerial components are harvested.
Asthma May be helpful as an anti-asthmatic herb as in Ghanaian hospitals.
Liver Disorders May help ease symptoms of viral hepatitis A and B in early stages as used in France.
