Bronchitis

Bronchitis (acute bronchitis) is an inflammation of the mucous membrane in the bronchi. It is usually triggered by viruses and heals on its own within a few days.

    Fever
    Chills
    Production of mucus

Acute bronchitis is usually triggered by cold viruses. Therefore, it often occurs together with or after a cold. One of the most important bronchitis symptoms is cough: most patients initially have a dry, irritating cough. It is often accompanied by a cold. In about half of the cases, the viruses spread everywhere in the body. Then, fever develops with bronchitis. Cold symptoms such as sore throat, headache, aching limbs, hoarseness and a burning sensation behind the breastbone often appear as well. Those affected feel sick and unwell.

Physical rest and avoiding stress are important for a quick recovery. Especially during sleep, the body can gain much needed strength to fight the disease. Therefore, in addition to treatment, you should observe the following points when suffering from bronchitis: Bed rest, drink plenty of fluids, ventilate regularly, avoid tobacco smoke, reduce stress.

Acute bronchitis can usually be treated at home without medical assistance. However, you should have a severe bronchitis examined by your family doctor at least once. He can assess possible dangers and risks well. Specialists for diseases of the respiratory tract are pneumologists and ENT physicians. In the case of acute bronchitis, however, they very rarely need to be consulted.
